Pouv Sareth

From: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Lives: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Occupation: Tuk-Tuk Driver

What One Degree Forward Says: Pouv is an incredibly inspirational man. During the Khmer Rouge regime, Pouv was taken from his family at the age of six and had to work in the rice fields for three years. He was given one cup of rice a day to eat. Most families were split up during the regime and he says he feels lucky because both his parents survived. He now works seven days a week.

For years he has supported his family on the inconsistent earnings of a local tuk tuk driver, some of whom can go weeks without receiving any income. Unable to afford his own tuk-tuk, Pouv was forced to rent a tuk-tuk which ultimately swallowed most of his profits. As the new owner of his own tuk-tuk, Pouv now has the ability to run his own business and use the profits for the benefit of his children and family.
